Origin Story

Weithaga AA represents the work of over 800 smallholder producers and demonstrates the most precise milling protocols exported from Kenya. The coffee is grown in the Aberdare Mountain range which has ideal growing conditions.

We purchased this lot with the help of Mbula Musau of Utake Coffee and BD Imports. After identifying this coffee at Mbula’s lab in spring 2023 during a blind cupping, we kept a close watch on the auction on a nearby screen. The auction refers to the Nairobi Coffee Exchange where nearly all coffee passes on its way to being exported. This buying model is unique and one of the ways that Kenyan farmers are rewarded for the quality of their harvest.

How To Brew

We recommend starting with a 1:18 coffee-to-water ratio, which provides an excellent total extraction level and maximizes flavor pulled out of the ground coffee. For our single origin coffees we recommend a pour over method either on a Chemex, V60 or Kalita Wave on a 5 or 6 grind setting if you are ordering from intelligentsia.com.
