Grown at 1,380 meters on the slopes of the Serra da Pedra Branca mountain range in southern Minas Gerais, this coffee comes from Sítio Santa Marta, where producer Marta Ribeiro Rodrigues tends to her 45-hectare farm. Of that, 20 hectares are dedicated to coffee production, while the rest remains protected in an effort to preserve biodiversity. Sítio Santa Marta is planted with Yellow and Red Catuaí and Arara varieties, but this lot features a careful separation of the best of the Catuaí harvest. It’s a small lot, and each cherry was handpicked at peak ripeness. Processed as a natural, the intact cherries were dried on patios for 20 days. In addition to growing coffee, Marta keeps bees and interplants olive and banana trees among her coffee plants—efforts that enrich biodiversity and nurture the health of the soil and the surrounding ecosystem.
